This is a revised guide that I produced last year for a client with a Weebly website for their local business. The objective of the blogs was to promote their recent work and to include keywords such as local places.
Prepare your Photographs
Each photo should be named with both a description and where appropriate a location.
e.g. Pouring Concrete in Virginia Water or Back Garden View of Pouring Concrete in Virginia Water
Prepare your Title and Text
Keep it simple but do include
- Location where appropriate
- Detail of what the pictures are about
- Extra ‘technical’ details to demonstrate knowledge
Open Weebly and Select Blog
This takes you to the website blog page where you can add new blogs or update previously saved or published blogs.
Start the New Blog
On the bottom right corner of the Weebly page look for blue button ‘New Post’, click and a new default blog post appears:
On the left are the Basic building blocks of the blog, these are dragged and dropped into place to build up the blog.
Now fill in your title and decide how you plan to put the pictures into the blog.
Add your Photographs
Options are as a single image, a gallery of images or as a slideshow. Remember if you have more than one image you can alternate each image with text rather than putting all the images together in a slideshow or a gallery.
Drag and drop your chosen style, in this case Gallery, onto the blog post.
Now drag and drop your (re-named) photographs to the grayed area.
Add your Text
Select the Text building block and drag it to the blog.
There is a bar to help with formatting of the text:
Now add your text:
And Post your Blog
Look at the bottom right corner and select Post (or Save if you want to come back and edit further)
And you will get confirmation of the successful posting of the blog:
Note that there are options on Weebly that can be set to share the post on either Facebook or Twitter directly after a successful post.
To Go Back and Edit a Post
As above to start a new post from the main Build screen, select Blog and then scroll through the blogs until you find the one that you would like to update.
Click on the Title and you are now back in editing mode and can delete, add or amend the blog as you wish. Use the ‘ Update’ button (top right) to re-post the blog. Remember that the blog will now be published with today’s time and date.
The URL of the blog Post
After publishing the blog, go back to the website and select ‘Blog’ and scroll to the blog you the URL of and click the title.
The URL will now be in the address area of your browser and can be copied and pasted for use in your social media posts.
