Saturday night in the Old Town
Light snow was again forecast for the evening and we wrapped up well before setting off back to the Old Town. Once past the Viru Gates we called at at the Bear Bar. This was one of the bars advertising beer at 3.50 Euros. To get into the bar we had to go down steps into what must have been a cellar.
We checked out the menu and decided on chicken in an almond and coconut sauce with chips and an an assortment of salad and cold vegetables. Again we weren’t sure about the more expensive ‘bear’ related food ion the menu. Our chicken was delicious and at 9 Euros was a bargain along with the beer.
This lady was again selling sweet almonds. I now feel guilty at not buying any.
The streets around the Town Hall Square were now a lot busier than on Friday. We walked through the square and up Dunkri and as we passed The Beer House a live band started playing. This was too good an opportunity to miss and we went in.
The band were playing music from the 70s and 80s and we joined in dancing to our favourite songs. We sat in the first part of the restaurant close to the stage on benches and again we sampled their beer.
When the band took a break there was a very loud crescendo of music and voices and a troupe of six dancers filled the space in front of the stage. They danced (probably) local Estonia folk dances for over 15 minutes.
When the band came back it was time for another round of beer and I did feel old when the music shifted to the 60s until they played some local music before switching back to blues, rock and roll classics and finally Abba!
At their next break the dance troupe re-appeared. This time after a few dances the audience participation was a chain and that danced all around the restaurant.
It was time for us to leave and begin our walk back to the hotel. It was now over two hours later than Friday as we walked back. The streets were full of people still enjoying their Saturday night.
In the Police Garden Park
The Police Garden Park had its own lights and walking through the park this was our view of the Hilton.
