The Hawker Hunter
From the TLE Facebook Group one of the photographers posted:
Hawker Hunter XG194 – Blackjack Red One. In service with the RAF from October 1956, she was the steed of Air Commodore Roger Topp, Commanding Officer 111 Sqn RAF, and was flown by him as the lead aircraft of the famous Black Arrows display team when they performed a 22 ship loop at Farnborough Air Show in July 1958.
The museum’s Hunter was a little way away from the museum’s HAS and I walked down to take my first images.
This was to be my first TLE event with re-enactors.
The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II
From the TLE Facebook Group one of the photographers posted:
McDonnell Douglas Phantom FGR.2 XT914 – Carrying both 56 Sqn and 74 Sqn markings, XT914 was based at Wattisham when operational with with the RAF. During her service, she was with 14, 56, 74 & 92 Squadrons, as well as 228 OCU (Operational Conversion Unit). She was withdrawn in November 1992 when the air defence role passed fully to the Tornado F.3 and had been the Phantom display that year, being flown by Sqn Ldr Archie Liggat, (pilot), and Flt Lt Mark Manwaring, (navigator).
The museum’s Phantom was in the HAS and we all gathered outside as the door alarmed sounded and the plane was revealed with two re-enactors.
