Ward Thomas played at the Bowery District in Reading on March 27th. After reading about them on the Internet, a visit to YouTube brought up some of their videos and a visit to Amazon soon had their first album – From Where We Stand.
Catherine and Lizzy are twin sisters from Hampshire who both write and play their own music. Influences they quote include Carrie Underwood, Johnny Cash and the Dixie Chicks. They have played at a number of festivals including Radio 2 Live as they started
This was our first time at The Bowery District and it is an intimate venue that allowed everyone to get close to the artists. Ward Thomas played songs off their album (including Way Back When, Take That Train, A Town Called Ugley as well as For The Stride) and some new numbers of their own. At the end of the set a country version of Man In The Mirror was excellent. The next day they had their 21st birthday !
My advice is to go and see them as soon as possible on this or their next UK tour as they will soon be playing much bigger venues !
This is my favourite track of their album – Way Back When
