The Air Forces Memorial is at Englefield Green near Egham. The Memorial is dedicated to the men and women who died in WWII from the air forces that have no recorded graves. Their names are engraved into the stone walls of the memorial that surround the quadrangle.
This is the view inside the quadrangle – “their name liveth for evermore” I climbed the circular staircase to have a closer look at both the view and the astral crown on top of the chapel.
Here is a closer look at the astral crown above the chapel.
The view fro the roof of the chapel is stunning looking out over the River Thames at Runnymede. Away to the right is Windsor Castle and to the left Heathrow airport. Here is a plane approaching Heathrow after passing over Windsor.
Look closely at this long distance view of Heathrow and the control tower and Terminal 5 along with a multitude of aircraft can be just be seen.
This poignant poem was on a window ledges alongside one of the walls of remembrance.
