Japanese Embassy
By the time I had left Charing Cross I had missed the scheduled start of the protest march to the Japanese Embassy. Japan has removed itself the IWC (International Whaling Commission) and declared its intention to resume commercial whaling. Over the years Japan has continued to kill whales in the Southern oceans allegedly for ‘scientific research’. How any government could plan to kill whales after all the the scientific evidence that in the past 50 years mankind has almost wiped out all the whales absolutely beggars belief.
There were barriers set up on the pavements outside the Embassy and I joined a small group of others waiting for the protest march to arrive. I heard about the horrors that were happening to dolphins in Taji dolphin hunt in Japan. Some of the protesters were now persona non-grata in Japan because of their protests about this hunt.
Not all the passers-by were waiting for the protest march.
While I waited I watched the traffic and later sheltered from the rain…
… this is just one of the Routemasters converted to be a mobile tea-room.
Bomber Command Memorial
The protest march had yet to arrive. I walked down Piccadilly towards Hyde Park Corner to the Bomber Command Memorial.
The damage to the Memorial by the vandal was still visible on the statues.
After paying my respects I walked back out onto Piccadilly and by now the protest march had arrived.
