Wednesday 7th October 2020 – Whitby
Back in Whitby we decided to walk into the town and stay on the north side of the river. We passed this wonderful mural on the way down the hill.
We decided it was time for a drink and the Arch and Abbey looked inviting. The tables were well spaced out and separated by barriers in places. The lager was excellent too!
after our break we walked along West Terrace to Cleveland Bay. There I took this picture of the memorial remembering when the town was shelled in WW1 by German ships.
This time it was not raining as I stood by the Captain Cook Memorial and the whalebone arch.
We walked down the steps to the street called Kyber Pass and on to Pier Road. Around the bandstand other visitors were enjoying their fish and chops and having to avoid the hordes of seagulls.
Opposite the railway station we noticed a queue waiting for takeaway fish and chips at a restaurant. We checked to see if we needed to book to eat inside but were told to just turn up. Tomorrow evening’s meal sorted!
