In this third round round we were asked to submit images with the theme of ‘Too close for comfort’.
‘Too close for comfort’ titled ‘Is this for me?’
This image is from our Hurtigruten voyage down the cost of Norway on the leg into Hammerfest. For over an hour a search and rescue helicopter practiced putting personnel onto the ship along with a stretcher. Just as important they then practiced taking everyone off again.

OK I’m getting it now
… up here we have the winch-man and there’s a thing sticking out and there’s a cable that’s holding the stretcher… photographed from this angle it certainly does look dangerous and ‘too close for comfort’ – yes, good marks for that
… photographically yes a striking image, I can’t say that it is deeply aesthetic piece but then it is not meant to be
… it is engineering, dramatic, theatrical
