‘Dancing lily’ is my entry for the third round of the digital image competition for the 2018-19 season. It is from the Creative Flower Workshop that we attended in December 2018. The workshop was hosted by Polina Plotnikova.
Dancing lily
Judge’s comments
… Let’s start with this lily first of all, it is beautifully formed, great detail in it, and it is well lit… and then you’ve used ( I don’t know whether it is the same image) and you’ve sort of wavered it across the screen on a slow shutter to form the image
… it is simple, the background is black, it doesn’t object or impose itself on anything
… maybe you just a touch thick with your line round the outside
… but I think it is a nice piece of work, I’ll see it again
The scores
There were 20 images in this projected digital round in Division 1.
‘Dancing lily’ scored 10.
The original image
The image is an in-camera multiple exposure. The first image was a 1.6 second exposure with intentional camera movement. The second was the image of the lily positioned using Live View and the camera blended the two images together.
I had some light in the bottom left hand corner of the final image which I cloned out in Photoshop.
Here is the image, as projected on the screen, against a black background showing the stroke commented on by the judge.
