I had had to cancel our booking of the Soul Supper as I was only just out of hospital a few days before. We had paid an extra fee and moved the booking to November. The location also had changed from being on the South Bank close to Waterloo to Between the Bridges on the Victoria Embankment.
Over Waterloo Bridge
I had visited the Leake Street tunnel and had a coffee in The Sidings before we left the station. After the main entrance we passed this group of people – chanting.
This artist had left their art on the bridge wall.
We were early for the start of the performance and we went to a pub on the Strand, The Lyceum Tavern.
This was a Sam Smith’s pub. We went into one of the small booths off the downstairs bar. I was shocked at the price of a pint of IPA , £7.80!!!
Soul Supper at Between the Bridges
We joined the queue outside the venue and after a short wait we were out of the cold and inside. We were directed up the steps to the mezzanine. Out name tags were on the table and we opted to sit at the end of the couch. We overlooked the stage and the tables on the ground floor – a great table!
The afternoon’s entertainment started with the DJ on the stage and we were soon enjoying Motown blasting through the venue.
On the steps that lead down to the stage a band set up and then the live music started !
Soul Supper food time
We could see servers carrying food to the tables below us. Then we were served with our meal of chicken.
Dessert was a branded muffin.
Just along the mezzanine was a small bar – very handy!
More music
The saxophonist played among the tables and then came up to us in the mezzanine.
Below us the conga party had started…
Then the performance was all over.
Here is the view from the steps behind the stage looking towards our table on the mezzanine.
The food wasn’t the originally promise “Motown Soul Food” but was very good given the size of the venue, the drinks were reasonably priced (unlike the pub) and best of all the music and entertainment was brilliant.
Until the next time …
Waterloo Bridge
All that was left for us was to make our way across Waterloo Bridge to catch our train.
