These are my images for the second round of the internal print league competition for the 2016-2017 season.
Texting in the rain
At the end of our day around Brick Lane, this young lady was walking into the covered market just as we were leaving. I have cropped and then converted this image to black and white.
Judge’s comments
… texting everywhere, young lady with something over her head, carrying her bags, showing off her legs, and texting in the rain
…with her reflection on the pavement underneath
… sharp throughout, exposure is all correct, very nicely handled
… but not a particularly exciting subject
Old City Walls
This image was from our visit to Dubrovnik and is a view overlooking the Old City walls used in the TV series Game of Thrones.
Judge’s comments
… and with a hole in that you put your camera through and it is somewhere in the Mediterranean I think
… it looks a bit odd to me, because the sky is a pale turquoise and the blue [of the sea] is more of a airforce blue and in my experience of the Mediterranean it is the other way round
… interesting viewpoint, focal point – yes, an interesting shot of the old city wherever it maybe
… you’ve managed to get detail in the stonework around the window , some of these shots the stonework can go black because of the exposure and it looses interest if you do
… quite well taken
The scores
There were 15 images in this round of the Intermediate internal print league.
The judge explained that an image would be awarded 7.5 if technically everything was OK, to get closer to 9.5 an image had to be ‘interesting’. To get to a 10 then extra ‘wow’ was needed.
Texting in the rain scored 7.5 and Old City Walls scored 7.5.
