This was the first round the PDI Trophy Competition at Farnborough Camera Club in the 2022-223 season and this was an open round with two images.
A posed lion
Summary of judge’s comments
… here we have this lovely face of this lion
… eyes as always in there key to so many of these images and the reflection in that one is nice as well
… sometimes you can even see the reflection of the photographer in there
… so, quite a nice image tightly cropped into him , no superficial information in there, nothing around . All we are looking at is that face that snout, the eyes and the detail in there
… really works well I think
… nine please
The old pier
On our long weekend in Swanage we went to the pier and as it was a bright day and resting my camera on the railing I took a half second exposure image of the old pier.
Summary of judge’s comments
… I like the way from a composition point of view that takes you into the top almost from the bottom right, around in a curve
… just to me it needs a little something else in there to give you a little more of the story
… there is a lot of whitespace in there as well
…in this sort of image you either like or don’t like and then you add in the photographic workrate which is quite considerable
… eight please
