Day 2 At Sea – Sunday, 26th May 2019
Weather: Partly cloudy, a couple of showers; 13°C or 55°F; Sunrise 6:25am / Sunset 10.05pm
I opened the curtains to a cold cloudy morning at 7 am. I made a cup of tea – thank you Princess Cruises for the kettle in the cabin, and then we all went back to sleep.
Later at 8:30 am we had to rush to get down to the International Dining Room for breakfast. We shared a table and after a quiet start we listened to a lady telling us about all her cruises. The breakfast special was Alaskan salmon in scrambled egg, which was delicious.
The weather did not inspire us to venture outside, instead we watched Bumblebee. This is a prequel to the Transformers franchise.
Lunch was in Alfredos in the Atrium for a pizza. From previous cruises on Sapphire Princess we knew to go over to the International Cafe and pick up a salad to have while our pepperoni pizzas were being made.
On the Promenade Deck
The port side doors on the Promenade Deck were all closed. But on the starboard side they were all open! I managed three circuits of the deck or just about 1 mile. Sapphire Princess was now in the Bay of Biscay and we had a slight swell coupled with a good strong wind. This did make the bow area on Deck 8 uncomfortable. At one point I could even see my breath as I stood and watched ships passing on the port side .
I did wait to try and get a closer image of this cruise ship.
Inside the Conservatory I caught up with the others and sat warming up reading my book.
Once back in the room we settled down and watched yet another movie. This one was ‘The house of clocks.’
Formal evening and a show
The evening was our first formal and was also the Captain’s cocktail party in the Atrium. The ‘champagne’ fountain in was in full swing as we waited for a table in The Savoy restaurant.
We again shared a table and learnt more about the different drinks packages on other cruise lines. I’m not sure I would get my money‘s worth without seriously damaging my health on any of them!
One of the ladies on the table paid an $19 extra to have lobster for her main course. This was when I noticed that steak was no longer a Princess Favourite but now all the grills (and lobster) were chargeable extras.
I started with a French onion soup, Caesar salad, then had beef tenderloin ( not great) and finally another New York cheese steak.
After our meal we went to the Explorers Lounge. The ‘yes/no’ competition was just finishing and we were lucky to find a table close to the front of the stage. There was then a 30 minute wait as the lounge filled to capacity waiting for the comedian.
Ricki Jay
The other couple on the shared table said their goodbyes. As they left, they explained that they had seen Ricki Jay before and did not want to see him again. At 10.15 pm he came on stage over the next 45 plus minutes I don’t think you stayed still for longer than 10 seconds.
His rapid five delivery and running around was unusual to say the least. He did pick on members of the audience or their country of origin. His act was then similar to most cruise comedians. Thankfully the majority of the jokes were ‘clean’ except for the final 10 minutes or so. The odd ones did make us feel a little uncomfortable given that we were with Myles.
Then it was back to the cabin after our late night.
