Following from my earlier post on software updates trying to get the unwary to download extra software, I came across the following when updating Java yet again on my PC. Given all the bad publicity about Java and its security issues I was surprised that the unwanted downloads are still there.
I have lost count of the number of times that I have updated Java in the last few months, especially when I read about its on going security issues and the decision by some companies to disable it completely. If you’ve missed all the news read this post “Oracle updates Java, as does Apple”.
I use Google Chrome for almost everything and only have Internet Explorer loaded as Windows needs it occasionally. Chrome ‘sand boxes’ Java so that any security issues shouldn’t effect my PC but Internet Explorer does not.
If like me you need Internet Explorer but would like to remove yet another security issue please follow this link to Sophos’ excellent advice blog, “How to disable Java – Internet Explorer” to get instructions on how to either remove Java completely or to remove it from IE only.
