In July I went on a rail trip around the UK presenting LinkedIn and Twitter training seminars, with Dennis Brown of UK4Business, in Edinburgh, Manchester and finally in Birmingham.
Our journey to Manchester was rather fraught as the Trans Pennine Express was anything but express and was so far off its schedule that it was being held at stations to allow other trains on the West Coast Mainline to pass us. This did allow me to play with FourSquare and check-in at every station and the various posts proved that humour does exist on social media plus I was engaging with local Tweeters as we slowly came south. The downside was that by the end of my journey FourSquare had awarded me “Train spotter badges”.
This is a note about the two training seminars in Manchester along with some testimonials and comments from the attendees.
After a trek across Manchester we had an excellent (very) late meal at a Brazillian restaurant near our hotel – I have recommended on TripAdvisor too (Bem Brasil)
The second day started with LinkedIn at The Place Hotel. This is a venue that we have used before and is to be recommended. Our problem was that the room really wasn’t big enough for the number of morning attendees so Dennis was kept busy sorting that problem out. The venue very kindly compensated all concerned by providing lunch for attendees who were staying for the afternoon.
The issues raised covered using LinkedIn to contact potential clients, how to set up LinkedIn company pages and what is its relevance to business?
The feedback from one of the attendees highlighted the need to produce a simple explanation of how the various social media platforms interact with each other. This is in hand for future courses.
Excellent course and would fully recommend. Thank you

Of value to both the novice and expert. Delivered by someone who has had a life before LinkedIn and other social media were created

Useful at demonstrating how to optimise your use of LinkedIn

After our lunch we had the Twitter seminar and were joined by new attendees to replace the ones who had left.
I haven’t been to Gary’s restaurant but we did digress into the use of Facebook to promote restaurants. Check the restaurant out by following @104highst or visit www.market-restaurant.com when next in Manchester.
Excellent ! Lots of great tips and ideas
