Day 15 Sunday 7th July: Southampton
I woke in the middle of the night and out on the balcony I could see the white cliffs of Dover. I switched on my phone and was immediately connected to the UK network.
As we had to be out of the cabin early, I went upstairs to the main buffet to pick up breakfasts for both of us. Outside our room was our bill for the cruise – unusually it wasn’t in an envelope but was just stuffed in the outside. Last look at our RCI cabin.
I am disappointed that RCI don’t give out a cruise log so that we could have a note of the ship’s progress day by day.
A quick visit to the Windjammer upstairs and I picked up fruit and cornflakes for breakfast. We were out of our room well before the scheduled time and made our way to the meeting place. As we entered the room we were told that disembarkation was ahead of schedule and we should now go down out on deck and leave the ship.
We joined the queue along the deck for a final security check and for some reason it took quite a long time for passengers to be finally allowed to leave the ship. Once in the baggage hall we then had to wait for our cases to be taken out of the ships cages. I guess that passengers were leaving the ship far faster than the port could process the luggage off the ship.
We loaded up our suitcases on trolleys and set off for our long walk to the short-term car park where our car was waiting for us.
