Afternoon on the North Sea
At midday we tried to listen to the Captain’s announcement. It didn’t appear to be on the TV and despite having the ‘announcement switch’ on in the cabin we still couldn’t hear a thing. Out on our balcony we could just about hear the odd word. A complete waste of time and all we could hope was that the information wasn’t important!
Lunch was in the Sapphire restaurant. After ordering we went to the salad bar to pick the ingredients of our salad We watched as they were chopped before being put into a bowl. Back at the table my teriyaki chicken was already there. Both the salad and the chicken were delicious. I rounded the lunch off with an apple parcel and custard.
We watched a movie back in our cabin as any chairs and tables that were free around the ship were in short supply. The satellite TV channels eventually settled down. Movies on RCI were not free which came as a surprise.
First formal evening
Here are the views of the evening sky over the North Sea.
This evening was our first formal one and we went down to the Royal Parade to listen to the Captain and to see him introduce his officers. They all stood on the walkway above the Parade above us.
We had booked a later dinner at 8.30 pm and were again squeezed onto a table for six. I had the deep-fried Camembert, Beef Wellington with baked potato then a version of Baked Alaska. Again we ordered two plates of extra vegetables to supplement the few that were served on our plates.
Frankie Valli Tribute
As we walked into the theatre we picked up a port guide for Oslo. Quite why the port guides were not distributed to cabins was a mystery to me for the whole cruise.
The show was a Frankie Valli tribute act with the lead singer having played Frankie on both the West End and on Broadway. We listened to the dire warnings about the use of video equipment being extended to even taking photographs of their performance.
The group were excellent and we all enjoyed the show. In one of the gaps in the songs one of the group suggested posted pictures on their Instagram page if anyone dare ignore all the warnings.
