Stag and hinds together
We followed behind the young stag as he moved to the right around the trees. He then walked up the hill towards the hinds.
Then over the brow of the hill the large stag appeared and the young stag retreated away to our right.
This stag had a magnificent set of antlers.
We continued up the hill and were out in the open again.
We now had the young stag to our right and the big stag to our left. As it looked like we might see some activity, we moved towards a large fallen tree. Other photographers were standing next to trees behind us but were quite a way from the hinds and the large stag.
The ‘gather’
We counted about 12 hinds with the large stag and as the morning progressed we watched him chase away more young males, ‘persuade’ hinds to leave other stags to join him and have moments of what looked like tenderness to us.
From our vantage point we were now close by where the hinds had moved to.
The stag’s busy morning continued.
