At the Thames Barrier
The London City Airport is just across the river and we had been seeing aircraft taking off as we walked down the river. As well as the usual turboprops there were small jets. For the rest of the afternoon the jets appeared to be doing circuits at the airport.
We were a lot earlier than our colleagues and we made good use of the time to eat in the small cafe by the information centre. The cafe were expecting crowds and had a tent outside selling burgers and fries.
Along the riverside the Environment Agency had set up tents that had lots of information about the Barrier and their suppliers plus some with games for the young visitors.
Views around the Thames Barrier
Walking back towards the Barrier on the riverside there was a covered walkway with great close views of the Barrier.
I even managed to see a seal exploring the Barrier.
Back past the cafe and visitor centre was a jetty that offered views up and down the Thames.
Plus a ‘Boris Bike’ that had been for swim in the river.
On the jetty was a steel door and I took this shot through a rusted hole in the door of two London Port employees returning from their boat.
Walking back up the river
Now the Barrier had been moved to the underspill position and the river upstream was very turbulent.
Aircraft from London City were still doing circuits.
