17 Mile Drive – the Lone Cypress
One of the stopping places was at the Lone Cypress. This has the reminders that the tree’s image is copyright.
Further along I was more excited by these trees.
This visit we didn’t stop at the golf course shops. We left Pebble Beach via the Carmel Gate and drove through the town. As usual there were no parking spaces available on Ocean Drive. Once back on US 1 we drove to our hotel.
Fishermans Wharf, Monterey
At Fisherman’s Wharf we went to check on the trip the next day. Our revised start time was 9 am. Once the ladies there learnt we had come in on a cruise ship they told us about the recent Princess Cruise ship visit. The ship had left with nearly 90 passengers missing!
We walked back towards downtown through the historic plaza. What struck us was the number of closed shops and boarded up restaurants.
The advantage of being lost earlier was that we now knew where Safeway was down Freemont. The supermarket car park was very busy. We picked up a couple of (large) custom made Caesar salads and some cheese cake for our evening meal. I noticed that some of the wines were actually cheaper than bottles of beer! We pickup up two bottles of this wine and a freshly made spaghetti and meatball dinner. Nearby we picked added a large bowl of prepared fruit. We would be eating well!
Freemont was very busy coming in from Monterey but going back the opposite way back to the hotel was clear.
As we parked the car a business jet screamed over our heads confirming that we were at the end of the airport runway – happy days!
