Around Market
As this was Saturday, Market below Union Square was very busy especially where the Cable cars started. After our visit to the Mission District we decided a beer and a sit down was called for.
After even more walking we stopped at an Italian restaurant that was empty.
We sat at the bar and enjoyed a beer and a chat with the staff about holidays and cruising. After I had finished my beer I noticed that the bar had a draft from Akureyi (in Iceland) – maybe next visit.
Hard Rock on Pier 39
We caught the F-Line down to Pier 39. This was as busy as the day before. We picked up a buzzer from Hard Rock and sat in reception waiting for a table. I even went into the shop and managed to leave without buying anything.
We had asked not to be seated on high stools so instead we finished up with a table next to the toilets. We tried to make the visit last by spreading out our orders.
I had Sam Adams Holiday beer. Honestly, I couldn’t tell any difference between it and regular Sam Adams.
This was to be our meal of the day and I chose the ‘new style burger’ While we were waiting for our meals a couple from the Coral Princess came past and we had a quick catch up on what we all had been doing since leaving the ship.
This being close to Halloween some of the HRC servers were dressed in costumes. The manager was dressed in a green full dress and promised us the dollar rebate for filling in the HRC online form (didn’t happen as the place was so busy).
Unlike our Argentinian HRC visits here on San Francisco the visit was much more pleasant and my burger was excellent.
Back along the Embarcadero
As we walked along the Embarcadero we could see fog rolling back in as Alcatraz was now almost covered.
We stopped at the ferries to check out the times for one to Sausalito.
I watched people gathered in front of the old Alcatraz railway lines. They were having a very serious conversation.
Then up above us two Marine Corps attack helicopters flew over.
We walked back to catch our trolley bus on North Point but stopped at the International supermarket on the way.
On earlier visits this is where we had stocked up on beer and wine. My sometime drink of Hobgoblin had a couple of Christmas related drinks from the UK brewery on sale here. We did manage to leave without beer, wine or even Christmas decorations – a first. But we did use the restrooms at the back of the store, very handy after all that water and beer at HRC.
