For a few week’s at Mottisfont there is an exhibition of Norman Thelwell’s cartoons as well as examples of his landscapes. He used to visit Mottisfont and painted the buildings and surrounding area and had donated some of his paintings to be hung in the gallery there. This exhibition consisted of examples from his family’s private collection.
There is a selection of Thelwell’s cartoons on The Cartoonist’ Club of Great Britain’s website’s notice of the exhibition as well as one of his landscapes.
After spending a lot of time looking at the exhibition (and having had a sandwich in the excellent restaurant) we went for a walk around the grounds. We decided to save the walks along the River Test for another visit but we did find some interesting sculptures around the grounds. This is “Alien” by David Bruer-Weil which will be at Mottisfont till Summer 2016.
Underneath the main house are reminders of Mottisfont’s history when it was a priory – here is one of my images from the Cellarium.
Walking back to the car park I spotted this swan that was swimming against current next to the small foot bridge on the way back to the visitor reception.
