My Pulse from Alpine Labs has arrived. This was my ninth Kickstarter project. The estimated delivery date was April this year, so it was a little late to arrive. The creators did however keep everyone updated on progress or the changes that were needed.
Out of the box
The contents included cables for connecting my cameras and for charging the Pulse.
The Pulse
The Pulse controls my DSLR from my iPhone as it plugs into the USB port on the camera and then uses Bluetooth to connect to an app. It can be used to shoot photos or to take time lapse photos – all controlled from the phone.
I plan to use it to take long exposure images where keeping the camera perfectly still is important. Secondly, as none of my cameras have built in interval timers I plan to try out taking time lapse images. Thirdly I want to place my cameras on a tripod near to the bird table and to take images remotely when woodpeckers come and take the food.
After taking a photo remotely the camera can deliver a thumbnail of the image direct to the app.
I have completed a couple of quick tests to ensure that it actually does work and I will publish images captured using the Pulse in anger.
