In my recent round of LinkedIn seminars for The Social Media Bureau I noticed that a number of the attendees had gone to the trouble of filling out all of their Personal Information on LinkedIn but hadn’t taken the precaution of protecting their identity fully.
Here are my suggestions:
Select Edit Profile from the Main Menu; then scroll down until the ‘Personal Information’ section is visible and click on edit.
Now as the sections are filled in you have to remember their visibility to others.
My concern after the seminars was the ‘Birth year’ entry filled in by some of the attendees and then made visible. My recommendation is to simply not fill in this particular section under any circumstances.
The padlock sign allows for the information to be limited to one of “My Connections”, “My Network” or “Everyone”; my recommendation is to stick to “My Connections” or to leave blank.
And as an added bonus while you are here, you can move this section of your profile up or down the profile page by placing the cursor at the top of the section (it turns ‘blue’ to show selected), keep right button held down and slide the section to where you’d like to see it
