On Monterey Bay we watched a Humpback whale join a sea lion feeding frenzy.
Our cruise through the Panama Canal started in Fort Lauderdale and would take us to Aruba, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico and finally San Francisco and then onto Monterey.
On Tuesday 31st October we were out on Monterey Bay for a morning’s whale watching on Blackfin. We had turned to return to harbour. We had seen a Humpback whale lunge feeding as well as lots of other whales – a successful morning.
Sea lions making the sea ‘boil’
Then to our port side the sea looked to be boiling and the captain turned for a closer look.
Then we could see heads of sea lions appear.
More and more appeared.
The whale appeared
Then we saw a Humpback whale appear.
The whale swam into the middle of the melee
and disappeared
and then it re-appeared.
And the whale left
Seals as well as sea lions
Then the whale was gone and we could see the sea lions and even seals now in the remaining melee.
Then Blackfin left to resume course back to Monterey harbour.
We went out on Monterey Bay the next day in afternoon and saw even more Humpback whales.
