Back on West Street again
Then climb up a set of steep steps that took us back up to just behind the open space with the two guitarists still singing.
From here we could better see the hill behind Corner Brook. This should be walk for another visit.
One of the more interesting (closed) shops on West Street.
Lunch and some local beer
We stopped outside the micro brewery only to discover that it wouldn’t open for at least a couple of hours. On the opposite side of the street, we could see a hotel/restaurant/micro-brewery, the Hew and Draw, that had a small queue outside. The servers in the restaurant were clearly run off their feet. After a wait we were shown to a table by the internal windows that looked into the brewery itself.
We chose to have a selection of starters to share to have with our locally brewed beer.
Newfoundland Mummers
The lamp posts announced ‘2022 Come Home’ and strung between them were lots of clothes!
We joined the crowd watching the two guitarists singing. In the open space in front of them were Newfoundland Mummers.
The singers stopped and announced that the parade would soon be passing down the street. Behind us we could see a police car and behind it a crowd of people carrying banners and banging drums.
The procession celebrated children and took a long time to pass us by…
On our way back to the ship I paused at the war memorial at the end of West Street.
