This morning we arrived at the Richmond Gate to see the deer rut a couple of minutes before they were opened. Once we were inside there was no traffic coming the other way as we drove around Richmond Park’s roads. When we reached the Roehampton Gate we could see why there was no traffic, as the gates were yet to opened.
We were the only car in the Pen Ponds car park apart for the cafe’s van doing the daily re-stock. We could hear a stag braying as soon as we left the car.
The stag was below the road and the majority of the does were on the outskirts of the woods above the road. The other does were crossing the road and when the stag decided to join them this caused a few issues with the cyclists and runners.
We moved below the road and watched the stag rounding up the does.
The sky was spectacular once the clouds had moved away.
Away towards the ponds two stags were ‘rutting’ by the bracken.
One more look at the stag before we crossed across the open space after these deer raced across.
The two stags were still play fighting as we passed.
