Stop 2 – The Queen’s Walk
We walked over the bridge and then down the steps to the side of the river. We now had a view of the Palace of Westminster, the Elizabeth Tower and Westminster Bridge above us on our right.
For this second pitch of the evening our suggested settings were
ISO100 f/16 for 30 seconds
Again Big Ben’s illumination was so bright as to almost blow out its exposure.
I swapped from landscape to portrait and took this image.
With a little work in Lightroom and cropped to be a square image, this is my favourite image from this pitch.
If you look closely at the image above there is a streak of blue light – this is from a boat passing through the bridge.
Stop 3 – Under Westminster Bridge
A short walk away from stop 2 was an underpass through to the side of the old GLC building.
My image here was taken much closer to the bridge to emphasise the street lights. It has been cropped and received some processing in Lightroom.
I was ‘off-piste’ for this last image as I’d been taking images of passers by on Queen’s Walk. This image was taken at ISO6400, f/4 for 1/50 second , 99 mm and unlike the previous images was hand held.
We stopped just at the mouth of the underpass to capture an image of the the tower through the arch made by the underpass. Everyone in the group took turns to set up their tripods to take their image. My turn came with the tripod and I hadn’t re-set my camera so my ‘classic’ shot was taken with a much higher ISO and probably not great camera settings. A lesson I keep re-learning to reset my camera settings!
