Back in the Suez Canal’s channels
Oceana then approached the channel at the top the lake.
This is the start of the new Suez Canal Channel. we took the starboard side channel. The other channel is for southbound convoys.
We then passed work sites on the Sinai bank.
The ferry was liked to another ferry across the southbound channel.
Further along the channel there was a pontoon bridge waiting to be swung across.
One of the watchtowers.
The watchtower was opposite a cross-channel.
Ahead we could see a fishing boat in the middle of the channel.
We now could see extensive buildings along the bank.
Clearly the fishermen had seen it all before and just moved a little to port.
Over the dune on the port side we then saw the first of the southbound convoy.
This ship was in the old channel and had passed through Timsah Lake and Ismailia. On the Sinai side of our channel we passed new building work and more watchtowers. This was close to the lake – Birkat Abu Jamus.
Beyond the dunes and the ships we could see Ishmailia.
In the distance we could see the monument to the battle of Ishmailia.
We passed more ferry crossings and then came to monuments celebrating the canal.
