Our next port was Muscat in Oman. There we took a short taxi tour of some of the sights before returning to Oceana to relax.
The next day Oceana started her passage through dangerous waters and the anti-piracy measures were now in-place overnight.
Our cruise through the Suez Canal started in Dubai and took us to Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Salalah, then the transit of the Suez Canal, Valletta, Dubrovnik, Hvar, Venice, Split and finally back to Valletta.
Day 8 Monday 25th March Muscat, Oman
It looked like being a beautiful day.
The coast around Muscat was quite rocky and as we neared the mouth of the harbour I could see the Corniche along the sea front and the Riyam Incense Burner.
On top of a small hill is the Riyam Incense Burner and at first glance looks like a large white acorn.
Then the sun briefly dipped behind some clouds.
As Oceana came into the harbour I watched people walking along the Corniche past the small shelters and statues.
Some even stopped to watch as the ship came into the harbour.
Above the harbour one of the two forts and we passed a docked warship.
Then Oceana reversed and turned to it’s starboard side. The quay that we were docking at is at a 90° angle to the harbour entrance. After this manoeuvre Oceana would then be able to sail easily out of the harbour.
After breakfast in the restaurant we left the ship and walked to the cruise terminal. The Wi-Fi did not accept my iPhone so it looked like we would be another day with no emails or messages. The free coach to the souk took us out past the small dock where we looked at the two large private yachts apparently owned by the Sultan. As the coach left the cruise terminal behind we could see one of the large private yachts making its way slowly out of the port.
