Dubrovnik Old Town harbour
At the end we turned right and followed the road until it led us to the small harbour.
At the breakwater I went closer to the water’s edge to look back at the walls behind us.
We watched the crowds at the breakwater.
The recent rain had left large puddles on the uneven surfaces and like everyone else we were hopping around them or having to step through them.
Walking back through the Old Town
Rather than re-trace our steps we walked back along a much narrower street. This had shops, restaurants and houses on either side. Narrow alleyways went off it both to the left and to the right. The ones on the right we could see linked up to the wide street that we had walked down originally.
There was a small market selling produce and locally made crafts.
In the shops we watched Christmas decorations being painted.
It was much cooler in this street as it was completely in shadows. We stopped at one of the restaurants on one of the alleyways for a sit down and a beer. We chatted to follow passengers who liker us needed to rest their feet.
At the end of the street we turned right and came back to the square near where we had entered the Old Town. Now the clouds had lifted and around the fountain crowds of tourists enjoyed the sun and were resting their feet.
We walked back down the main street looking at the shops on on the other side that we’d walked down earlier. I went up one of the alleyways to our left that climbed up to the walls furthest away from the sea. The alleyway gave way to steps after I had passed a narrow cross street. The steps were quite steep and on each there were doors to houses rather than to shops or restaurants.
Out of one of these doors I met an English couple who were in Dubrovnik for the weekend. They had just arrived and were understandably a little tired after carrying their weekend bags up to their apartment!
I walked back down and turned left on the side street then walk back down a different alley. I met up with Linda who had picked up some snacks from the bakery. We joined the crowds enjoying the sun sitting around the fountain in the square.
