The play we were going to see at the Duke of York Theatre did not start until after 7 pm. The play was called “Barcelona” and starred Lily Collins as one of the actors. We had allowed time to have something to eat as well as take in pre-Christmas London.
Leake Street Tunnel
We were at Waterloo in plenty of time for a visit to the tunnel for a wander up and down.
Here are some more images of the art in the tunnel.
Five Guys
Our early dinner was in Five Guys just down from Charing Cross station off the Strand.

St Martins Lane
While we waited we went down into the Crypt under St Martins in the Field church.
“Barcelona” at the Duke of York theatre
The play had just two actors, Lily Collins (Emily in Paris) & Álvaro Morte (Money Heist), both making their West debuts.
We didn’t know very much about the play and had booked to see Lily on the stage. Before the play started the audience was warned that there would be no intermission and returning to seats would only be allowed at certain points in the play.
The audience was also asked to not take pictures during the performance. Above is the set for the whole play, an apartment in Barcelona.
Lily plays an American tourist visiting who goes back to the apartment with a handsome (older) Spaniard in what started out to be a one night stand.
The play held our attention, the acting was superb and as the evening unravelled we learnt the (sometimes dark) background of the two players. With desire, humour, clash of cultures, personal issues, sadness, politics and re-evaluations.
Barcelona was a truly great experience.

The standing ovation from the audience was well deserved.
