Day 3 Friday 7th October In transit to Naples
We were promised a little rough weather overnight with rain but neither disturbed my sleep as Oceana sailed South towards Naples. On deck at 7.30 am the rain overnight had made the decks wet and until the sun began to rise the sky looked dark and dreary.
After breakfast in the restaurant activities were underway around the ship including some of the ship’s cooks giving demonstrations in the Atrium. On the Promenade Deck the Force 7 winds were only really apparent when walking around the stern of Oceana. By noon, after three miles of walking, the sun arrived in a mainly clear sky with only some scattered clouds.
Lunch was in the restaurant and was cod fishcakes with a side salad. The weather continued to improve as the ship sailed further South.
After a restful afternoon reading the sunset was at 6.40 pm. I am always amazed at the contrails that sometimes appear as the sun sets.
This was our first formal evening and it was the Captain’s Gala Party in the Atrium followed by the Marco Pierre White dinner. Instead of Marco’s menu I had the prime roast rib of beef but with Marco’s asparagus as a starter and for afterwards the pear tart tatin back on the main menu.
The show was The Spinettes, three ladies singing together re-visiting the 1940s.
These images were taken with my iPhone using the Camera+ app which allows easy adjustment of exposure. For these shots I was using -2 or 3 stops.
Sitting at the front brought its own problems especially when one of the ladies decided to leave the stage and come and sit next to me to ask me to sing with them one of the verses of the White Cliffs of Dover.
