The Clive Harrison Trophy at Bracknell Camera Club is for panels of between three and eight mounted images that have a common theme and can be accompanied by a script of up to fifty words. The layout of the pictures within the panel also had to be specified with a maximum of three rows allowed.
This was my first panel and I chose the images from a selection that I’d taken on a recent trans-Atlantic crossing. Here is the chosen layout followed by my script.
Another Day at Sea
Once the sun was shining on the balconies, we watched the Atlantic glide by.
Then later in the day sipped a long drink and watched some more.
Now ready for formal dinner, we watched some more.
And finally as the sun was setting we reflected on another day at sea.
Here is a summary of the judge’s comments on my panel that at first may seem a little hard but once I’d heard the comments on the other panels I better understood how the panels were judged.
These pictures look to be taken on a ship looking down the balconies, we don’t go on cruises as you can’t get off when you want . . .
They are all taken in a similar manner, just leaning over with an arm away in the distance, someone drinking, a hand and a monochrome of someone in the distance
The picture with hands is the strongest image
Only one monochrome and the panel has no balance and the pictures are all similar
I have emphasised my key learning points from the judge after I had listened to the judge’s comments on all the other entries.
Here is short summary of what he was looking for:
IDEA
PHOTOGRAPHY
PRESENTATION
With idea being the theme of the related images, how good was the photography and lastly hwo was the panel put together (coherence, balance etc.)
