This was our first cruise since March 2020 and our first on P&O‘s new ship, Iona. This was our second day in Rotterdam. The city had shut down early in the evening of our first day due to local Covid health regulations. After our two days and a night in Rotterdam, our last port was to be Le Havre.
Tuesday 14th December 2022 Rotterdam
We had a late start to our second day in Rotterdam. After we had spent the day in the city centre we decided to walk through the parks on the opposite side of the river to the Europa Tower. After crossing the bridge we went down the steps to follow the streets that ran parallel to the river towards the parks and the tower.
On the way we passed a small dock full of boats.
The streets we walked along were either offices or what appeared to be apartments.
Once we reached the first park the buildings to our left and right were definitely apartments. The parks were very busy with lots of council workers planting and sorting out the flower beds. We passed small ponds and connected waterways and a restaurant that was very busy serving breakfasts.
The Europa Tower
Once we arrived at Europa Tower we discovered that due to Covid the opening days and times were restricted. So we had to make do with looking up at it!
Rather than retracing our steps we walked past the tower and turned back towards the city, staying alongside the dual carriageway below us. This came into the city from a tunnel underneath the river.
After the park we turned right and crossed over the bridge that spanned the dual carriageway.
