Pier 90 again
We were quickly through the Pier and back onto the ship.
Evening onboard Emerald Princess
In our cabin we had another round of Canadian customs declarations.
We were on a table for six and had lively conversations about cruising, visiting Argentina and Montevideo and going on Hurtigruten. I had prosciutto, prawn cocktail, spaghetti meatballs and
After dinner we went to the theatre to watch a local group perform – singing, jazz, dancing and burlesque.
After the show we went on deck to have another look at the New York skyline. Deck 8 forward had a few other photographers but what was as interesting as the skyline was the views inside the ship that we could also see. The doors to crew recreation rooms and bars were all propped open and we could get a glimpse of where the crew spent some of their leisure time.
From the Cruise Log
New York, USA — Wednesday 25th September 2019 In the early hours of the morning, the clocks were set one hour back to align with UTC-4, as Sapphire Princess made her final approach to the Sandy Hook pilot boarding position from the East, embarking the harbour pilot at 02:53 on a north westerly heading. She then steered various north westerly and northerly headings as she proceeded inbound through New York harbour, passing Ellis Island and Staten Island on her port side and paralleling the west coast of Manhattan on her starboard side. She then embarked the docking pilot at 04:56 on the final approach to the berth. Sapphire Princess berthed bow in, starboard side alongside the quay at Berth No.90, Pier 4, with the help of two tugboats to stem the strong Hudson River current. Sapphire Princess ran her first lines ashore at 06:02, and by 06:24, Sapphire Princess had made all 16 mooring lines onto the bollards. Thirty minutes later, gangways had been rigged on Deck 4 and Deck 6, safe for passenger use.
At 14:00 ship’s company was once again exercised in their emergency duties as part of a United States Coastguard Inspection fire drill. Once complete, Sapphire Princess remained alongside, starboard side to quay at Berth No. 90 throughout the evening and overnight.
