Grand Central Station
After lunch we walked past the Park to Madison Avenue.
We went down a ramp into the station’s tunnels.
Fifth Avenue
After Grand Central Station we started to work our way up towards Central Park along Fifth Avenue. Everywhere was incredibly busy as it was UN Week. The extra security meant that cross streets were often blocked and there were only limited places to cross. There were news crews scattered along the Avenue as well as lots of police. Lines of dumper trucks were on the opposite side of the Avenue to protect against car bombs. In amongst it there were lots of black limousines presumably full of diplomats.
We later learnt just how special this building is – having a very small footprint, being very tall and being very very expensive!
