Day 11 St John’s Antigua
After breakfast we went our onto Heritage Quay to join the hundreds of passengers off the four ships that were docked in St John’s. It is not a secure area so the number of vendors and worse of all taxi drivers touting for business is extraordinary. After being asked to join an island tour for the umpteenth time we dived into the shops and just like the other islands so far this trip, the Levis shop didn’t have any jeans in the style or that size I wanted.
Instead of more shops, we joined the queue at the ‘official’ taxi dispatcher and asked to be taken to a beach. For $8 each we went to Valley Church Beach that is away South on the island. Once our mini bus was rammed with passengers we set off through St John’s to the beach.
The prices at the beach were reasonable $20 for sun loungers and an umbrella, $20 for six Banks beer and $10 for a pizza. Unusually the local beer was not available in the beer in a bucket offer. This was at one of the beach bars that was called The Nest and best of all it had free wifi and as we were there early I was able to check my emails easily.
The beach was beautiful with a steep drop down to the sea and after a couple of metres the water was very deep.
We had lunch at The Nest of pizza and Beer
Just past The Nest there are some colourful beach stalls
We returned to Heritage Quay in the same mini bus but this time the spaces were filled with passengers of the German TUI ship.
Tip: we learnt later that after noon mini buses were being turned away as there were no sun beds available – so if you are going go early!
And for fun this is a sign I spotted where the taxi let us out.
We missed the great British sail away – again. Instead we watched a little girl enjoying the music and dancing to it way away across the harbour.
And here is here house on the right (shows how sound carries across water or just how load the music onboard actually is!)
The sunset after we left Antigua.
After dinner we went to watch the late show in the theatre from the ate show The Fly Rights.
