Day 15 Last day in Barbados then flight to Gatwick
In the morning the port was unusually quiet, perhaps because it was a Saturday? There were a couple of sailing ships, a super yacht and two smaller cruise ships in port.
To give time to the cabin stewards to prepare for the next passengers, we had to leave our cabin by 8 am. After breakfast we had a short wait before leaving on our tour. This was ‘Farewell to Barbados: Crane Resort’.
The coach took us up the West Coast past Holetown and Sandy Lane before turning East into the middle of the island. Our driver gave us a running commentary about what we were passing with a little history thrown in.
We called at Bethsheba for a short break and best of all to take some pictures. Not quite the photography tour that I had planned for the day before but the we had blue skies and a beautiful sea.
After our stop at Bathsheba Beach by the old railway station we went onto visit one of the famous churches on the island that is on the East Coast – St Georges.
Buffet lunch was at the Crane Resort and there I had my last Banks beer this trip.
Grantley Adams International Airport had even longer queues than usual for immigration and security. The good news about being from a cruise ship was the separate line that was shorter. Once inside the terminal it was as hot as ever. One day we will remember to book a place in one of the lounges. The only passenger information boards are a long way from the charter boarding gates at the other end of the terminal.
Gate 14 is way way down the terminal with no information boards.
Charter flights all board through gate 14 and coaches take passengers to the plane which is way down the flight line. The terminal has one set of flight information which is just as you enter the passenger area. As airports rank Grantley Adams is one of the least organised. Our flight was not called but boarding started anyway from Gate 14, causing confusion to all the other passengers waiting to board other flights.
After getting out of the terminal there is along walk past lots of (empty seats) to where the coaches wait to take passengers to the flight line.
And this is the most welcome sight at Grantley Adams International Airport – your aircraft!
Till the next time !
