Petty Harbour
We past back through St John’s to get to our next stop at Petty Harbour. Here are some of the painted houses.
One of the war memorials.
We passed the stone building that once housed the vaults of Newman & Co. This where Portuguese port was once stored to improve the bouquet.
Once out of the city we passed along long roads that were lined with forests on either side.
The coach then made right turn and climbed up the hill and there was Petty harbour below us. The road passed through Maddox Cove, which is now the over spill of Petty Harbour.
The history of the Petty Harbour was fascinating with a mixed heritage of pirates and French settlers and then finally Irish fisherman. Just like Signal Hill we only had 30 minutes there.
Along the harbour we walked past a row of huts that had piles of nets and lobster pots around them.
Some of the boats we passed did not look particularly seaworthy. We stopped and chatted to fisherman in one of the boats who are gutting cod out on the deck. This was part of their over 1,000 pound catch made that day.
The coach re-traced the road away from Petty Harbour.
