The Reversing Falls of Saint John
The Reversing Falls at Saint John is where the tides from the Bay of Fundy are so strong that in the narrow gorge the Saint John river appears to be flowing in reverse. The tides were not in our favour when we reached the bridge
The tourist viewing platform below us was full of spectators watching the river.
Crossing the bridge I noticed the signs placed there urging anyone contemplating suicide to stop and to make a call to a local charity. Looking down on the river and the rapids below it certainly looked like a spot that someone might attempt suicide.
We could see the river churning below us and again we could see Sapphire Princess docked at the terminal way down the in the port.
Over the other side we reached the restaurant suggested by the ship’s port presenter -the Skywalk.
Inside there was just one table available to sit and have just a drink. All the other tables required the purchase of a meal.
The 14 1/2 Café + Bar
Past the Skywalk we could see another restaurant not mentioned by the port presenter. This was the 14 1/2 Café + Bar. Once outside the busy restaurant we were greeted by a smiling server behind the bar. There were racks of souvenirs by the door and beyond a lot of tables set for lunch. Some of the larger tables had ‘reserved’ labels but lots of the others did not.
We bought a couple of drinks and went outside to the private patio is. These were tiered on three levels and had tables with umbrellas.
On the lowest tier we joined a couple from the ship and chatted about the cruise and all the ports that we have visited. Below us we had a great view of the river and we could look up and see the bridge above us.
As we left I picked up a fridge magnet from the souvenir racks next to the bar
