Our second day in New York we rode the subway, visited the 9/11 monument and Wall Street, walked the Highline and sailed out past the Statue of Liberty.
Our cruise to Canada and New England took us across the Atlantic to St John’s, Newfoundland; Sydney, Nova Scotia; Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; two days in New York City; Newport, Rhode Island, Boston, Massachusetts; Rockland, Maine; St John, New Brunswick; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and back across the Atlantic to Southampton.
Thursday 26th September: New York, New York
After a leisurely breakfast we set off to explore Lower Manhattan. Leaving Pier 90 was easy and we walked east till we we reached the subway on 5oth Street. A nice discount on fares for seniors – thank you! We rode down to Charlotte Street so we could visit the 9/11 Memorial.
9/11 Memorial
We had decided not to visit the museum but simply to walk through the park and onto Wall Street.
It was very moving to see the flowers left for the victims over their names on their birthday.
We past the fire house that had first responded as we walked towards Wall Street.
Wall Street
Lunch at TGI Fridays
Down the steps to a rather dreary TGIs in the basement. We just had potato skins and left through the other side of the restaurant and walked to Rector Street subway to catch a train.
Walking from the subway to reach the Highline…
