From the Island Princess’ navigator:
Overnight Island Princess passed by Cape Decision (Waypoint 7) and entered the waters at Chatham Strait.
During the morning, Island Princess will transit Icy Strait, a great area for sighting humpback whales,
and then head towards Icy Strait Point, located on Chichagof Island.
The morning of Friday 13th July on our way to Icy Strait Point
At 5 am the ship was slowly sailing up a fjord with another ship ahead of us. The sky was thankfully clear and the sun streamed into our cabin.
We were early for breakfast in the Bordeaux restaurant and today’s special was two eggs, tacos, beans and salsa. Definitely delicious.
Our arrival at Icy Straight Point was scheduled for noon. Island princess was sailing through a channel with wooded hills on both sides.
We were out on Deck 7 and decided to try our look forward on Deck 10. This was open but was very windy. Then it was back to Deck 8 and the stern. At least there we had great views and no wind.
A whale surfaced at the side of the ship for a few moments and then went back down.
As we neared the dock we watched boats across from the island.
