Leaving Helsingborg
We went out on the Promenade Deck after lunch to make phone calls and to watch the tenders being taken back on board.
Sapphire Princess spun around and joined the sea traffic in the Oresund Strait. We then could see the beach and the Karnan tower dominating the city.
From Deck 15 I could clearly see both sides of the narrows and the busy ferry traffic to and from Helsingor in Denmark.
The name of one of the ferries was a reminder of Tycho Brahe who had lived on the island of Ven.
On the screen over the pool a film of Lady Antebellum’s tour was showing. I sat and watched the story of the tour, the backstage preparation, how they wrote songs in the day when on tour and the live performances on the tour.
Not a a memorable dinner
Dinner was a sad affair as for the first meal on this trip we had a pair of unhappy servers. There was no water until we asked, then waiter was simply grumpy and surly. My mushroom soup was delicious but the filet mignon steak came wrapped in pure fat and was overcooked, the bed of mushroom risotto was tasteless. The sweet potato chunks (all four of them) were good. Linda’s medium steak was overcooked so much that no way was it medium and it was probably more than well done!
I finished off with New York cheesecake and two scoops of ice cream.
We finally have decided that perhaps the purchase of a on board duty-free was a good idea, especially as the offer on two bottles of Bombay Sapphire was so good. We were out of luck, as this offer had sold out on the first day out of Southampton! Our meal had taken so long to serve that we had missed the start of the stage show by Amethyst. We did manage to squeeze in and watch the last half by standing on the stairs. One of their tricks had technical issues but the finale was a fine example of putting a lady in a box and some how moving it apart, putting poles and then she emerged unscathed at the end.
Sunset
From the map on the cabin’s TV we were off Gothenburg and out on deck I waited for the sunset. We passed a TUI cruise ship that was going very slowly in the opposite direction.
The deck this sunset was very busy.
