Thanks to Covid-19 this tour, based in Bamburgh, had to have its itinerary changes from our booking in 2020. Robert Harvey of Natural World Photography did a simply superb job to re-organise the tour and to take us to so many different locations.
We chose to stage our journey to Northumbria and stop in North Yorkshire at Rainton just off the A1. We have relations in a town close by so we had a small family reunion in the early afternoon.
The Bay Horse Country Inn in Rainton
After checking in to the Bay Horse Country Inn, we went for a walk through the village. There were some impressive houses that had once been barns.
We sat in the back patio of the inn enjoying a drink and some late afternoon sunshine.
Dinner was in the side bar rather than in the dining room. It was excellent!
And breakfast was equally as good!
The Angel of the North – 27th June 2021
On our way North we stopped briefly at The Angel of the North.
Bamburgh – 27th June 2021
The streets around Bamburgh were very busy and parking was almost impossible. Our hotel was the Victoria Hotel on the main street and after checking the hotel’s website again we discovered that there was a a hotel car park. It was several hundred yards away but at least we could dump the car and get our luggage up to the hotel and check-in.
We were early for the start of the tour and we went for a walk down to the castle and onto the beach. But first we stopped at The Copper Kettle and sat outside enjoying a cream tea.
On the green in front of the castle we watched the croquet players.
Bamburgh Castle
Day 1: Arrive at Bamburgh at 2pm. Introductory presentation. 5pm dinner. Evening photography of Bamburgh Castle at low tide.
After dinner we had our first trip in the Tourneo with everyone on the tour. This was just a short drive around the coast for the first shoot of the tour.
