Leaving St Petersburg
We stayed on our balcony to watch as Aurora left St Petersburg.
To get out into the bay Aurora had to pass through the hydrofoil lanes and they did come close to the ship.
It was then time for a well deserved sit down and rest until we reached Kotlin Island.
Kotlin Island
I was out on deck after we crossed the bay and approached Kotlin Island.
I watched from the starboard side looking North as we approached Kotlin Island. The Naval Cathedral of St. Nicholas could be seen over all the military buildings as we approached.
Then we began to pass the naval base and the ships there.
Here are some of the old defences.
This view of the Cathedral gave us a glimpse of its other domes.
Kotlin Island is linked to both sides of the bay by road tunnels.
One last look back at the island and the Cathedral.
Sunset in the Gulf of Finland
Dinner for me was Chicken Caesar salad (no anchovies), Chicken Kiev followed by a Strawberry Sensation Sundae(!)
At 11.30 pm I watched the fabulous sunset.
