Are you getting lots of emails pretending to be from LinkedIn? These are unsubtle attempts to get the unwary to click on any of the links in the email to institute some form of attack on your system or a phishing attempt to try and get logon details.
There are a number of pointers why this email is pretending to be from LinkedIn.
The obvious ones are:
1) Email domain displayed as the sender
2) Perhaps the email address sent to you is not your LinkedIn primary (this is usually the case for the ones I receive)
3) An unlikely, but interesting, person requesting to be connected
4) The terms used are not the same as a genuine LinkedIn email
My advice is to use settings within LinkedIn and to switch off all emails. This means that any email you receive must be malware and can be safely ignored and deleted.
To do this:
1) Click on “Settings”, which is top right in the pull down with your name
2) Enter your password, if requested
3) Look to the left and select “Email Preferences”
4) Now you have a bit of work to do as you select each of the following sections:
5) Selecting “None” or unchecking to receive emails in all the options above should stop all emails from LinkedIn itself.
Do remember now that now it is up to you to go into LinkedIn to make sure you are getting all the notifications of activity but you should now be clear that all the emails you receive are indeed spam or malware attempts.
