Fortnum & Masons at the Royal Exchange is named “Most Instagrammable Restaurant in London” by the Evening Standard. Our three course dinner and the building certainly didn’t disappoint us!
Bar 1790
True to form we were early for our dinner reservation in the Royal Exchange. I re-traced my steps around the area where I had been on a recent workshop with Ovi Selaru. On our short walk around the City we stopped at Bar 1790 on St Swithins Lane for a drink.
This is part of the Sandeman Quarter on the lane. When I explored the building (looking for the loos) I discovered that the cellars had been converted into dining rooms.
A quick check on TripAdvisor I discovered the connection to Sandeman Port and the re-established link with St Swithins Lane. The cellars that are now dining rooms are listed!
We sat outside in the passageway until the smoke from neighbouring tables became too much and move close to the bar.
The bar was full by the time we left and headed back towards Bank an the Royal Exchange.
The Royal Exchange
The Fortnum’s Bar & Restaurant at the Royal Exchange
Once inside the Royal Exchange the view of the open space is impressive. The bar is instantly recognisable sitting in the middle of the space.
We were early but this was no problem to really friendly staff of Fortnum’s. From our table we had great views as we sat and waited for our welcome cocktail.
After our cocktail we ordered and added a bottle of red wine.
The courses were simply excellent…
And what a fabulous dessert.
As this was birthday celebration we received these fabulous cakes which we had boxed up to take home.
The service we received was impeccable.
