Day 2: Tuesday 9th April 2024: Atlantic Ocean
I was woken up at around midnight by the ship shaking with the movements of the sea. For the rest of the night and into the morning we had a bouncy ride.
The wind was so strong that opening the cabin’s sliding door to the balcony was very difficult.
After breakfast in the buffet we called at the $10 sale. What a change this was to the sales on earlier cruises. It was held on a table in the hallway between the shops rather than in a closed restaurant. The sale itself had very little to offer. In the duty free shop Silent Pool was now for sale (but very expensive.)
Because of the weather, we had no access to the decks outside (except on our balcony), which was a pity.
Art auction
We stopped to watch the art auction. It was fascinating as “unique” items came up for auction. With a few Google searches I found similar pieces by the same artist for sale (at lower prices I might add.).
The folks all around us were buying art and not blinking at the prices.
We had a seat next to a window in the Ciello restaurant for lunch. At least we could see the rough Atlantic as we ate.
In the afternoon we were still unable to walk out on the decks so instead we watched a movie in the cabin. Outside the sun shone but the wind howled! I was very lazy and ordered bottles of IPA to be delivered to the cabin,
Second evening on Sky Princess on the Atlantic
This was going to be our first formal evening and we had some hor d’oeuvres delivered to our cabin. Again we suffered from the way the dining rooms are organised on Sky Princess. After another long wait we shared a large table in the Ciello restaurant. However, it was a relaxed meal that lasted from around 6:30 pm till after 9 pm.
Due to the Atlantic weather the scheduled theatre show, “The Spotlight Bar“, had been cancelled.
We briefly went into Take Five to listen to the jazz. But as before on other cruises, we spared our ears after only one number.
The only available seats, for us, had been very close to the stage and the music was deafening.
It was very smokey in the casino much more than usual. I found a seat in a nearby smoke-free bar while I waited to go to the Vista Lounge.
Josh Daniels – Comedian
Our evening’s entertainment was in the Vista lounge with the comedian, Josh Daniels. He was very funny as always. Later in the Piazza there was a celebration of an earlier wedding.
The Atlantic was calmer as we settled down ready for the first port day in A Coruña.
