Lunch
We went for lunch at a restaurant up the street that we had passed earlier in the morning.
The chicken salad and Spanish omelette were excellent.
We did rather overdo the beer and had to finish two one litre bottles with the meal.
The restaurant did take credit cards but not Mastercard so it was back to US dollars to settle our lunch bill.
Afternoon in Montevideo
Once back at the hotel we picked up more details of the evening out and five of our fellow passengers were also going to the show and we agreed to meet at 8.15 pm and to share taxis.
We then walked along the promenade back towards the dock gates. Unlike in the city centre cars did not stop or even slow down when crossing this road. We found murals as well as lots of tags on the buildings along the road. There was even more interesting street art up the side streets from the main road…
… and some interesting old cars.
Almost opposite the hotel was an area built out from the promenade as a small pier. As I walked along taking pictures of the murals I was stopped by a jogger who advised me to not keep my camera out in the open as I walked about.
Over the road I found quote on the side of a church of all places.
Here are my street art images form our first day in Montevideo (in progress – lots of images to process)
By then we’d had enough walking for the day and went back to the hotel. Up on the roof we had a quick look back at the city behind us …
… and both ways along the promenade.
Then it was back to our room for a cup of tea and to get ready for our busy evening.
Evening in Montevideo
At 8.15 pm we met other passengers also going to the tango show in the hotel lobby.
Our images from the Tango evening in Montevideo are here (in progress – lots of images to process)
After the show we all waited outside for taxis. Our Swedish companions paid in US dollars after a short time of extreme negotiating with the driver.
Once back in the room I went online to get my OU/RPS digital photography results and was pleased to discover that I had passed.
The street outside our room was quiet now the traffic had stopped and we settled down for a good night’s sleep on land.
